This is as good a time as any to point out that pretty much everyone in the movie throws rapey looks at JaneвЂ“from the crew of the steamer, to her dad to, wellвЂ¦the elephant might have, itвЂ™s hard to tell with elephants. The Tarzan story from Jane's point of view. Oh yeah, it gets real incesty real fast, as Parker spends many scenes staring longingly at Jane. Well, the family reunion isnвЂ™t exactly a joyous one, as Jane is really cheesed off at dad for basically abandoning her mother to romp around Africa, and James is obsessed with how beautiful Jane is and how much she resembles her mother. Because, I guess the best to whet your audienceвЂ™s appetite for some nubile Bo Derek flesh is to show Richard Harris hanging brain. He greets the arrival of the tramp steamer carrying Jane by doing a jig on the river bank wearing only boots and a nightshirt. He carries her through the jungle, swinging on vines. However, Holt turns his back for a second and Tarzan pulls Jane under the water and they disappear. As they continue through the jungle, Jane stops at the river to fill her canteen and Parker orders Holt to watch her. I mean, like, break out the butterfly nets and the rubber room nuts. Africa is abducted by the savage tribe, but Parker mistakenly thinks Tarzan kidnapped her and it fuels his desire to kill the ape man. Jane finds dad set up on a river bank with his expedition, and he is absolutely nuts. Jane has ventured in darkest Africa in search of her father, James Parker (a possibly-unhinged Richard Harris), a world-famous explorer and adventurer. In this version, Jane (she of вЂњMe Tarzan, you JaneвЂќ fame) is played by the aforementioned Bo Derek. The story of Tarzan the Ape Man is really nothing new: girl meets boy raised by monkeys, boyвЂ¦no, thatвЂ™s basically it. And with that, let us dive into 1981вЂ™s Tarzan the Ape Man.
